This new law has strong implications for elections here in the Garden State. We’ll talk about creative ways to put the new law to work: ending single-race city councils, empowering unaffiliated voters, and build councils and school boards that represent everyone.
Sponsored by Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson and signed into law last month by Governor Sherrill, the JRAVEA is the latest in a string of laws passed nationwide. Ten states have passed state Voting Rights Acts. They’re a way to stop the backsliding caused by the U.S. Supreme Court’s attacks on voting rights.
